I saw Wisp's suggestion in the spreadsheet about doing a tarp-hanging workshop. That sounds like a great idea to me, since aside from the hammock (obviously), the tarp is the most critical part of your overall setup.

We could go over some hardware options, different kinds of tarps, a few useful and easy-to-remember knots, configurations other than staked down and when they're useful, aiming to best block or make use of the breeze....maybe even other options than having trekking poles or trees in good positions to do porch mode, cord storage, etc.

I may have a fair bit of experience setting up a big spider's nest to arrange our two tarps as a big open area (I can help show knots!), but not many other setups - I'd actually really like to learn from a workshop like this.

There will be folks arriving early, however, most will arrive Friday afternoon/evening or even Saturday morning. There are plenty of trees so hanging should not be an issue. Also if you arrive in the dark, there are plenty of us who would be glad to lend a hand setting up if you need it.

There is an open area with a clear shot of the sky so if you don't mind packing the observatory, I bet it would work well.
Sounds good. We'll plan on talking a 1/2 day off work so I can arrive Friday around 5-ish.

I would suggest starting a FB page. It's a big group and successful event that might benefit from redundancy. I'm hoping to attend this fall but do not know where my next calling will take me. Nevertheless, I don't want to lose touch with anyone so am taking measures.

Last night the site went down while I was in the middle of contacting folks. There are things happening that might make forming a Texas Hammock Hangers FB page a very good idea.

I don't want to make a knee jerk reaction and I have no desire to attempt to replace what we have here at HF, however, there is some logic in redundancy as long as we don't weigh our packs down too much.

For those who want a Texas Hammock Hangers page on FB. I've set it up but will continue to use this thread and HF as my primary go to.
