    Paddling to the hikes

Paddled to an island last weekend that boasts two fabulous, although short, hikes. Both lead to sheer cliffs overlooking the lake. The first one we had already done last year, we discovered the path by accident while collecting firewood and didn't have cameras with us. The second hike was a tad foggy on the lake which means a return trip is in order.
I also got to use my new tarp for the first time. I can't remember who on these forums posted a link to it at an awesome price, but thank you! It rocks!
There are pictures on my profile if you want to have a look.

Debi, That is exactly what I LOVE to do! You have a beautiful place to live and someday I want to visit Canada. The tarp looked sweet, what is it? I have a hex tarp that I want to duplicate because I love it so much because I'm wearing it out! It looked like you guys had plenty of wood too.

You have me stumped Debi. It looks like you're on Superior, but it's not an area I'm familiar with. Looks like a nice place though!

Photo #9 looks unreal! How far is the island from the mainland?

    Absolutely beautiful.
We recently bought a used Jocassee tandem with booster seat to suppliment my wife and my yaks. Now our family of five can yak to these types of destinations.
They just don't look like that here in Florida. I'm envious.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

    Nice pics!
When I saw Mink Island, I was like, hey, it's backwards. Then I figured out you were on the other side from the normal shoreline view.
I'm guessing Spar Island. Never been up there...now on the bucket list thanks to you!

Thanks guys! Sturgeon was right, it's spar island, which is about 4-5km from shore. Our plan was to island hop over to Thompson and camp the second night there but the fog kept us on spar.
Not sure what the tarp is off hand, but I'll let you know

That's kind of funny. About two weeks ago we were looking at Google Earth and thinking we should grab my dads boat and check out Thompson to camp on. I take it it is hammock friendly? It looks like mostly old growth pine/spruce from the satellite images.

Thompson is beautiful. On the lake side, the boaters have built a dock and sauna in a bay, it's beautiful, but can be very busy on weekends. There is a really nice beach on the opposite side, it's very rocky but you could hang hammocks back in the bush a bit. Victoria Island is also very nice, Cosgrave Bay at the southern tip boasts a magnificant sand beach, and on the lake side, there's a big bay with a cobble beach, have camped in both spots, very much prefer Cosgrave. Lots of pictures of both on my Facebook if you want to check them out, just send me a request. Same name there as here.
