How do you pass the time once everything is set up?

Do you play games, read books, fiddle with the hammock all night, go directly to sleep? I am going hiking with two friends this weekend, and we talked about bringing some games with us. I don't really know what to do, though -- normally I camp by myself, and just bring along a good book.

Fly fishing, cooking dinner, camp fire building, drinking bourbon. What else is there?

Watch the fire, toss a frisbee, have a walk around, sit around and complain about how #$@%#^$$%# hot it is

When hiking with someone, conversation. When alone, listening to nature and sleeping.

maybe not the place to make this comment but the OP asked the question

WHY DO SO MANY FOLKS HAVE TO BE ENTERTAINED, ALL THE BLANKETY BLANK TIME?

a location verifying device a/o a device to call for medical assistance is all i might carry w/ me, at this point in my life(chronologically advanced)

that said, I GO CAMPING TO ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

once camp is set & the proposed meal under way, I JUST KICK BACK & ENJOY THE SURROUNDINGS

WATCH(the fire, birds...), LISTEN( to the breeze thru the leaves, small critters going about life, water flowing over rocks...), VEG(allowing my mind to just relax), VISIT(w/ those i went camping to be with), if there is still enough NATURAL LIGHT i might READ(a book or about the area where i am camping/traveling)

they're pretty simple, my reasons for camping

& they don't put motels where i want to be, most of the time

just this old man's point of view

I like to whittle. I'm not good at it...at all, but I sure enjoy it just for the sake of it.
Otherwise, my inner bio-nerd tends to have me walking around the general area trying to identify stuff from old memories.

A few swigs of bourbon is always lovely.
    Trust nobody!

Find wood, burn wood, talk about stuff with others, repeat until tired.
