Hello from Florida and need some guidance!

Just dropping in for a quick intro! I am actually more interested in replacing my bed with a hammock than camping (though this all started years ago when I bought a hammock for camping... and haven't found a good place to try it), and all of my research keeps leading me here... so, hi!

I'm looking for a solution - DIY or otherwise - for being able to share a hammock. Hubby and I weigh ~400lbs together and the only stand we found rated for that (at 450lbs actually), that would also fit in our room, bent the first time we both got in it. I don't trust the walls or ceiling for mounting *at all* as the previous owner did some... rather interesting engineering... to the structure of the house. The 15' stands rated for 600lbs don't fit in the room.

Currently we take turns sleeping in the hammock, and I basically don't sleep on the nights on the bed anymore.

Could anyone point me in the right direction to find/discuss what to do there?

    Thanks!

Husband (Duffy) and I had this dilemma not long ago. We opted for separate tablecloth hammocks, attached to the walls of our very small bedroom. If you'll check my gallery, you'll see the fantastic job he did with the setup. Welcome to the madness!

Hi and thanks for the reply MightyMouse! I came across your setup in my research and *love* it, but I really am too afraid to attach them to the walls (the whole interior of the house has had walls moved around... badly... and the second floor was added without what I'd call adequate floor trusses)... plus I like to be able to snuggle with my hubby! The few minutes we managed to hang in the hammock together was very comfy (slightly too short for two in the 9' stand but not too bad), until I realized we were very slowly sinking toward the ground. XD

It hasn't moved any more with either of us in it for a week so we've kept the stand and have thought about just getting a second one and putting them side-by-side, but we're both pretty handy so it just seems like we should be able to build something to suit us both at the same time.

As an aside -- there sure do seem to be a lot of people in Florida here!

Hello, from the East Coast, World's most famous beach, well close enough to it.
Sure, it starts all innocent like, then, you'll be looking for someone to go outdoors with.

Good luck in your research, not that you need it. I'm sure you will be deluged with all the info you can stomach.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. Here is a link to a stand I put together out of an old yard swing. Not sure that it would be of any help in your situation but maybe something could be work out using 2 in combination.
