I use 1.5" seatbelt polyester straps with a loop in one end. I usually make a wrap around the tree and feed the strap through its loop, like the example on the left in the attached photo.
In order to make it around a very large oak tree today, I joined two straps by their loops. I made a wrap around the tree and tied a MSH using both ends of the strap. This formed a large loop around the tree, like the example on the right.
Aside from the greater risk of the strap slipping down the tree, does this method seem less secure/safe? Seemed to hold me fine for an hour-long nap. I wondered if the change would put greater/different stress on the MSH or straps.
