    Hennessy suspension rope

I bought an HH Hyperlight. I weigh 210 and I am little concerned about the weight capacity. I want to change the rope with a stronger one that does not weigh anymore. Any suggestions?

you will be fine with the factory lines at 210#. Breaking is around 3000# on those lines.

me and my kid will take naps in his HH Scout. Combined weight is about 190 lbs. Check out the hoemade gear section for some new rope ideas. I think the weight rating of the HH is for the hammock not the rope. Unless you plan on modding for other reasons like straps or longer ropes I think your wasting your time.

I think Chrisp70 is correct. It's the hammock material that the weight rating is referring to, not the suspension. My opinion is that it will still hold just fine, but it will stretch a lot and not be as comfortable as it should be.

I wonder about the "strectch". If you needed to adjust the "stretch" you could add a piece of rope to just the inside of the HH. With my light weight (140 lbs) I don't have any issues. Even with napping with the kid I'm still comfy. If you can imagine the Shelf in the Warbonnet that's where he lays and his legs cross over mine.

Just a note Guero Mochilero if the ropes were to break it should be at the knots. you could work on some straps or rings to eliminate lashing to your tree huggers.

You would have to lay on the rope for any benefit. It's the fabric of the hammock body that stretches under your weight. I have both of the double versions of the BB (1.1 & 1.7) so I've had the opportunity to lay in both of them side by side. There is a definite difference between the two, even being double layered. It wasn't enough to make me uncomfortable in the 1.1, but there was a difference. A single layer (like the HH Hyperlight) would be even more pronounced. I have slept in a single layer 1.1 DIY hammock and did so with relative comfort, but it isn't as comfy as a 1.9/1.7 for me.

Course, I weigh a wee bit more than you.

I follow ya.I thought you were talking about the rope stretching. I couldn't imagine. I was thinking if you wanted more sag you could use another rope to shorten the distance of the ridge line. I feel the same way as you that I would want a flatter sleeping plane. I would not want stretch.

I need to set up my two hammocks again and compare. I camp so often and solo that I never seem to have them both up at the same time.

Yeah, especially with the double layer hammocks, I don't think I would have noticed as much without them both set-up at the same time. A single layer is pretty obvious for us fat-kids.
