National Hammock Day!

I'm being told by my son-in-law that today (July 22) is National Hammock Day. Has anybody else heard this?

Hammock Day

Whether it's on a southern veranda, a white sand beach, or in your own back yard under a shade tree, hammocks have become the quintessential symbol of peace and relaxation.

Hammocks date back more than 1,000 years to the indigenous peoples of Central America. Sixteenth century explorers recounted witnessing the Indians building small fires under their hammocks to provide warmth as well as to deter predators.

But hammocks do more than just protect you from dirt and creepy crawlies. According to scientists, hammocks provide a faster and sounder sleep than ordinary stationary beds.

July 22 is "Hammock Day." And although you can purchase a hammock in just about any color or material you want, why not celebrate by making your own?

I've had a few friends remind me, as if I could forget

I've been planning for this day for months

There are a lot of deals and giveaways from several manufacturers that I'm trying to track. I've posted a few on my Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Its also my daughters birthday today. I get to celebrate my munchkin AND my hammock on the same day?! Who could ask for more?

They must have been watching me

I always start feeling sleepy as soon as I enter my hammy. It's a dangerous thing, a wonderfully dangerous thing
