    2013 NC Hot Springs Hang

That's right folks, Running Feather and I have decided to host yet another Hot Springs hang. We've had several people, over the last couple of hangs ask if we were going to.
The official dates are from Friday September 20th- Sunday the 22nd. The usual site has been secured,(#413), this will be the group site, but it's a good idea to call up the Hot Springs campground and reserve one for yourself 1-828-622-7267.
There'll be Dutch oven cooking going on, ladderball championships, hiking, kayaking/canoeing, and of course....big campfires every night. Cabins are available to rent, just ask the campground people when you call.
We'll post more info soon, just wanted to see who was interested in attending. This has always been one of the group hangs I've looked forward to most. See ya'll there.

I'm heading there this weekend actually.

Here is a site map in case anyone is interested in scoping out potential camp sites before getting reservations.

I am certainly looking forward to this. I've marked on my calendar and I'm trying to convince my family to come.

That is an Oscar weekend. With ladderball, tubing on the river and perhaps a slackline (?) I think I'll be able to convince him to camp with Mom some more.

    River Trips!

My troop of River Rats (Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts) have been asking about this trip to do again because we had so much fun last year!

We'll be coming and bringing whitewater sit-on-tops again for those who have some experience in whitewater enough to paddle the class II-III section (Section 9, putting in at Walnut and taking out at Stack House, well ABOVE the class IV).

The boats are rated up to 250 lbs and wearing PFD's and Helmets are mandatory equipment (I can bring extra gear). Several of the paddlers who are coming are swift water rescue trained including myself, so no worries on safety.

We have had a high water level year because of the huge amount of rain we keep getting. If by the end of September it is still as high as it is now an alternate trip may be planned or it could even be canceled.

So far there are 3 boats available. So speak up soon to reserve your boat.

Please no one under 18 on section 9. But hopefully we can twist Mechelle's arm to step up and organize that tube trip on the lower section for kids and those who want a relaxing float. How about that Michelle?!

    A slackline is a definite.

I'm considering renting a boat to bring, but I'd like to run all the way back to the campground. I have paddled class IV before, but it has been a while. I'll need to get my battle roll back in action first.
Cakes, would you be willing, or any others in your group be willing to run the river on down to the site with me? If not, I'd like to reserve a sit on top.

There may be a few in my group who would want to run down through Kayakers Ledge & Frank Bells but we will have to see as we get closer to the event. It is level dependant because if it's very low water the distance between Stack House & the next rapid is 4 miles of flat, scrapie water. Also in that case we would have to set up 2 shuttles. We will have to just wait & see how many and who comes.
I will be happy to hold a Sit-On-Top for you anyway.
