    Best Hikes in Cheaha

I'm going hiking in Cheaha State Park tomorrow for just an overnight/2-day trip. Are there any specific trails in the ~4 mile range, other than McDill Point, that y'all would recomend? I love McDill Point, but with it being so hot, I would rather find something that had at least a little water. I heard that Devil's Den was nice, but from what I read, it's not much of a hike. Thanks if advance!

unfortunately, chinabee silent is closed till october'ish due to flooding.. that's by far my favorite 8 mile stretch of hike with several spots with plenty of water and good hanging spots.

the non lake end of chinabee on the other side of the turnipseed TH is open but very little water. i did skyway loop a year or so ago, but odn't remember the water situation on that part of the trail.

pinhoti is unfortunately rather dry in my experience as well. though with all the rain we've had there may indeed be solid running water in the creeks along the pinhoti..

    good luck and hvae fun!

Thanks for the suggestions, I ended up doing about two miles on the Cave Creek trail and stopping near a creek because it was so dang hot and humid and it was the first place that wasn't covered in fire ants. I think I'm done hiking anything longer than that until it cools down, so maybe Chinabee will be open by then

    Howdy TheGorge,

Yeah man, that's been my experience in general with hiking/backpacking in the southeast during the summer.

It's great though, that we've had so much rain that HOPEFULLY creeks that are usually dry as a bone, will be flowing. Anyway, I think you'll have fun on Chinabee (the harder and easier sections).

There is a group hang planned for Cheaha (likely somewhere around the Turnipseed trailhead) this fall, hope to see you there.

I'll definitely try to come to the group hang if I don't have anything going on. I have yet to hike anything from Turnipseed

when is the group hang planned for Cheaha?
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

I believe Oct. 4-6 is still the planned weekend.
