Sounds like a great trip! I've had similar expieriences in the bwca that made me make the decision to try a hammock. I started with a cheap hammock and just took naps and relaxed in it. After getting wet by camping on the ground I finally purchased a new hammock this year. No regrets yet!

    BWCA 1st Hammock Experience

We are entering at Brule which is near the east side north of Grand Marais. We do a week long trip looping through Cherokee, Long Island lake, and Winchell. I can't wait, it is the trip I look forward to every year.

I was lucky enough to spend ten days on BWCA.
This was one of my favorite trips, ever.
    Unfortunately, I was a tent camper =(.

You are very lucky to be close enough to make trips
out there. It is a pristine and gorgeous area. The neatest
thing about it all, most of the portages, are the same portages
that indians and traders have used for centuries!

We followed the BWCA to the east out from Moose Lake,
and had a blast. I loved how you could travel from almost any
lake to another. Just plan your route and go. I guess I like the
    spontaneousness.

On my trip, we saw literally like 2 or 3 other canoes of people the
entire time. This matches nearly the amount of bears we saw.
