Did you tape the edges? If so, how much tape did you use overall?
I'm making at least two of these very soon and possibly 4 or 5 depending.
No tape on the edges. I simply folded over the edges twice and then laid down a seam. Figured I save weight by not introducing any more material than I had to.
Here's a tip to keep everything "square and tight"... Sew the hems (two sides) on the triangles that you will sew to the sides of the center section BEFORE you attach (sew) them to the center section. When you finish sewing these hems you may find that the un-hemmed edge (the edge you will roll into the hem with the center section) no longer forms a straight line (it may bow a little along its length). You need to fix it. Simply measure the same distance on either side, draw a straight line to keep the triangle square, and either cut or, or do as I do, melt it with a wood burner. If you square up these triangles before you attach them to the center section then all will be uber-tight!
Shoot me a PM if that confused you and I can explain further.

Makes perfect sense. Thank you. I've been sewing pretty much all my life. Just haven't made gear before.
We and the folks I would be making them for are all car campers. Weight isn't a concern for us for the most part. I wonder if rolling and then taping the edges like the hennessy tarps we've had would make them stronger. I like my tarps hung TIGHT and I would worry about them becoming weakened around the seams. If I tape the edges that would add structure and strength.
Then another question for you. Since I'm going to be doing a bunch, I'm talking about having them all pre-made and then dunking in the silicone stuff at one go. Do you think your mix would do more than one of these tarps at a time or is this pretty much 1 application per mix?
Thank you very much!
You should easily be able to do two tarps with that mixture. I would recommend using at least a 5 gal bucket and would dunk both at the same time... and then hang 'em.
Have Fun!

I love the way your MEGA-OG tarp looks. What interests me the
most is the utilitarian-ness of the extra triangles. I am thinking of
creating something similar, but with a larger rectangular section on
one side, so that I can prop it up as an impromptu porch.
I envision a sort of combination of a wall tent and tarp. This would
give me a larger shaded area to sit under, and extra material to
"batton up the hatches" in severe weather.
I am guessing that the triangles make it easier to tie out, but perhaps
I am missing some other features of the triangular sides ???
Trambo,
The design features of the triangles gives the tarp flexibility to be deployed in different ways. A standard hex can only be used one way.
The ogee and mega ogee are simple to rehang at different angles to allow for complete storm coverage/winter mode.
If I recall...there are several ogee tarp threads. With pics.
Here's the first.
