Talking New to the Neighborhood, Want to Say Hey!

    Hello all!

Like the title says, I'm new to not only this forum but also hammocks!

I recently went camping with a group of friends and two of them had hammocks. I was amazed! This was my first introduction to hammock camping and I could not get the idea out of my head. I've been crawling around here and a few of the other popular sites and have learned A LOT about hammock camping.

Well, I pulled the trigger today. I ordered a Hennessy Explorer Ultralite Asym and the Super Shelter system. I ended up with the Hennessy for a number of reasons, but one main one was hands on experience since one of my friends took one on the above mentioned trip. I was very impressed overall and felt better about purchasing something I had experienced first hand.

Mainly, I wanted to introduce myself and say that I CANNOT WAIT for my hammock to arrive on my doorstep! I have a feeling that my camping trips are going to be revolutionized!

    Best,

    Daniel Pittard

Welcome. There should be some great hanging around Athens with easy access to the north Georgia hills. I grew up just below Atlanta and camped several times on Blood Mountain. Happy Hangin'.

Loads of information here on the Super Shelter. I just completed a weekend where it worked very well. I am pleased with the system but there is a learning curve to it. Research the quirks and you'll do fine with it. Above all.... when you get the super shelter avoid messing around with it too much as it is easy to turn inside out. If that happens.... big trouble.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Rev,

I caught your HH SS tutorial over on the HH forums! Great information. I can see how easily the SS can get turned inside-out.

Fellow Bulldog hear but haven't been back to Athens since I graduated in 00'. I really miss that place. Lots of great outdoors stuff around the area within 2 hours and an awesome town in general.

Now I live in Cincinnati .

I too am a newbie and spent my first night in mine last night in the back yard. It is a learning curve and I am still in hammocks 101, but it is a fun alternative.

Let us know how your first hang goes when you get it.

Welcome Dan! You ordered exactly the same configuration that I did almost exactly one year ago. FWIW, I still am using exactly the same configuration today with no mods whatsoever. I've spent over 50 nights in my hammock the last year in temps down to -27F (with some extra insulation of course...)

Keep us informed about your experiences with the system, especially things you observe that do or do not work for you.
