Anyone up for a BP in the Birkheads? Start from the Trail Head late Friday afternoon, January 24th, return Sunday January 26. About 10, maybe 12 miles total. Trail Head is about a 2 hour drive from RTP.

Starting at the Robbins Branch Trail Head, the 2nd one south on Lassiter Mill Road.
If temps are predicted below 20 degrees, it's off. My gear will handle lower temps it but my old body won't.

I liked the loop the last time I did it.
The Trail is a lot different that the Southern Uwharrie Trail (They are working on the connection as we type).
The Birkhead loop stays mostly on ridge lines and only drops down to creeks in two places (IIRC) in the southwest section.
There is a trail on the east side that leads down to a campsite with a good spring. Don't remember and didn't go down to look for it.
Maybe on of the other NC crowd will pop up with better details.
