    Red face Anti-Sap Webbing?

Admitted Newb here. I came across the AHE Sap sack made out of Silicon treated nylon and the idea of treating the actual straps came to mind due to my first hang ever leaving my straps nice and sappy.

Is there already a product for something like that? Would the abbrasion simply be to much for a treatment of any sort (my assumption)? Do you usually just not care? Thoughts appreciated!

Look before you hang as much as possible. Try not to hang on trees with wounds leaking sap. You might be able to silicone treat some straps like the DIY folks do a tarp. I don't know if it's been tried. The other option is just to clean it off with some "goo gone". That orange solvent works pretty well on pine sap.

we too have a preponderance of sap ooozing trees....i'm leaning towards, just making 'em cheap enough that you can get over tossing 'em after an outing. not green but it does cut down on the aggravation.

I think I enjoy Zukiguy's option more considering I lean towards anti-consumerism. I would be curious to see if anyone has sil treated their straps... I will definitely keep that solvent in mind though.

Someone, on the forum, made an ingenus double ended stuff sack with pockets to put the straps in. It wouldn't keep sap off of your straps but, it keep your sappy straps away from the rest of your hammock.

Sap does not just wipe of of sil. Anyone that has had sap drip on a tarp will confirm that.

Coating the straps won't do much for you other than adding weight, and something for everything in the world to stick to...pet hair, dirt, you name it.

Straps are one of those things that need cleaned from time to time. Keeping sap covered straps off your other gear is a good idea. When at home either clean sap off with a citrus based cleaner or rubbing alcohol or let the sap dry out and it will flake off to a huge degree on it's own.

Just remember that straps are one of those things that take a good bit of the wear and tear in hammock camping. You will want to watch for signs of fatigue in the webbing and replace them as needed....like hiking shoes...at some point it is time to retire the old ones and get a fresh set. Generally that is years of use on a pair...I still sometimes use the first set I made when we started AHE.

Sap just doesn't even register on the list of things that concern me. There's a little sap on the tree straps I've used for four years, but it hasn't gotten all over my gear. I'd find something else to worry about!

Hand Sanitizer will remove the sap,
    I've also used citrus handcleaner!
