Greetings Tree Dwellers,
I have levitated a few feet above ground and love it. Not too long ago I got a chance to directly compare ground sniffing to sleeping in a hammock within a couple weeks of comparing each method. Sleeping on the ground is no longer for me although the lighter weight of my Cuban tent makes a noticeable difference when backpacking. What struck me as somewhat odd was that sleeping on the ground with all my high tech lightweight gear that I carried there just wasn't desirable and put a somewhat dark cloud on my experience when I did an overnight hike on the AT. I just cannot sleep good on the ground and I often thought about the eventuality of dealing with rain. It didn't happen but I only slept for short periods of time. That, plus the roots, sticks, and small rocks poking up from the tent floor wasn't any fun either. In my opinion, sleeping in a hammock is a great way to go when backpacking but there is a weight penalty that I will have to deal with.
I am now looking at getting a Warbonnet Ridgerunner. It seems to have the lay that I have been longing for. When I do I will part ways with the tent and my Blackbird. I will no longer sleep on the ground. I have come to realize the healing powers of drifting away peacefully in a hammock after a long hike.
Anyway, thanks for allowing me to join your community.
