I'm not real familiar with how to get onto these hanging trips with other people on the forums locally. I always just end up going out with my dad (he is a royal ranger commander) (meaning basically Christian based Boy Scouts) been camping my whole life but always been with in the royal rangers or a friemd.

My go-to hammock is single layer of 1.1oz ripstop (from DIYGearSupply.com). I weigh about 220 so probably 230 "sleeping weight".
I've had no issues with stretching or feeling like it's going to tear. My suspension is Amsteel continuous loops & whoopies with polyester straps so not much stretch there either.
This is generally what I go out with:
17.88oz - Tarp w/ guys
18.7oz - Hammock and Suspension
13.69oz - Thermarest zlite pad
34.67oz - Hand-me-down down bag from the 70's (40* or 50* bag, I think)
2.4kg
84.94 oz
