    Weather shield?

How many of yall use something to protect yourself and your hammock from the weather?

I've got the Warbonnet Ridge Runner coming (will be here tomorrow, woohoo!), and I know thers an undercover avaliable, but I was thinking of something out of cuben fiber.

You could use a sheet of cuben fiber, expensive though. I use WB's undercover with the poncho option. Saves some weight from having to carry a raincoat plus it keeps my quilt dry.

Tyvek might work. It is cheap, light and somewhat breathable. You can find solid white sheets on amazon.

I use them from time to time when I feel the trip and weather will call for one. Wind, blowing rain. Especially with a smaller tarp.
They are very effective and do provide warmth and keep the wind fro robbing the heat from a UQ.

I fashioned a pair of weather shields out of polycro, which is very light weight, called peak beaks:

Has anyone ever tried the golite poncho tarp to protect from below?

I suppose any poncho can be used to block wind and rain if strung up underneath.

A poncho doing double duty is good, but you might also consider a full length of polycro like MDSH used, except for full length. Supposedly available at Walmart but also from Gossamer Gear...

...about 1.6 oz. A lot less expensive than cuben

I just made one out of a $20 Grand Trunk Ultralight hammock. I ran small shock cord through the end channels for the suspension and added small shock cord through the middle third of the side channels with cord locks at each end to snug it up. Quick and easy. I haven't weighed it... I'll put it on the scale soon and find out just how much.

    Take it easy,
