Has anyone ever made an underquilt from some old military poncho liners? I have a couple and the idea sounded pretty good to me. Maybe not as warm as down but when you aready have the supplies why not.

I've been meaning to make a poncho UQ, and try it with a poncho liner.

I am thinking of sewing in a line down both sides to connect to the head and foot of my HH. 2 or 3 liners together should be pretty warm.

Been there, done that.... works.... bottoms out at 52-55*.... heavy; Poncho 21+ and PL 21.5 oz.... 42+ oz total..... cut it down a bit and still end up at 32-36 oz.... lot of weight for minimal benefit IMHO....Non breathable poncho will also trap condensation in the PL.
But hey you might like it for summer use only....

Only used the Wiggy's poncho liner on Bridge Hammocks and what I list below is only our experience. I think that Neo used to use poncho liners and pads - of course everybody says he has anti-freeze for blood.
Easy to install on Bridges.
Poncho liner by itself is good down to about 40 to 45.
Poncho liner with 3/8" thick GG pads on top of liner: about freezing. (Note: GG pads are crossed in a T formation so that doubles the thickness under the torso to 3/4")
Disadvantage: weight about 32 oz + 9 oz for GG pads. Not a light option by any means. Don't know the weight of his current poncho liners.
Advantage: cost. Wiggy was selling out his stock for $17.00 + S&H when we purchased. The price is $60 less $12 discount now. 3/8" GG pads are about $20.00 I think, so $40.00 for both or $84 for liner + pads. Considerably less than a down UQ.
