Sleeping bag as top quilt...cover/secure the zipper?????

From what I have read here, everyone's big concern with using a sleeping bag as a top quilt is puncturing the hammock with the zipper.

Has anyone thought of a way to cover the entire zipper and secure the toggle so this no longer is an issue???

I am picturing a sheath, or tape, etc. Similar how do you cover the blade on a bow saw when not in use...

    Ideas or suggestions.......

I used my sleeping bags before I got top quilts and never had an issue but I see where it could be, I would probably slap a piece of duct tape on it and have it stuck to my leg by morning that's a good question, without cutting it out and sew a footbox into it. Have to think about that one

I have used mine many times....never covered the zipper. If i did i reckon some tape would do it.

A sleeping bag is what I always use and I've never had a problem. I've never even thought to cover the zipper

I bruise and bleed easily, I cut the zipper off, finished the edges, everything looks nice and neat. Nothing to scratch me or bruise me.

I've never had issues with the zipper damaging either of my hammocks.

Has anyone ever had any damage, or is this just and old hammock tale?

Sleeping bag as top quilt...cover/secure the zipper?????

I've never had an issue but it always worries me. I hang in a BIAS WWM and that material always seems very fragile to me. I'm probably just imagining it.

I have used my sleeping bag for years as a top quilt, i always worried that the zipper would tear my hammock, so i had my wife cut the zipper out and hem the edges closed, and she sewed the foot box closed. out of site out of mind.
