Going to a meeting in Woodstock, VT this week. Staying over the weekend and looking for a loop hike on the Long Trail nearby. 2 nights, up to 25 miles or so. Any suggestions?

The more you know, the less you carry.
I have to drive back to Boston on Sunday evening, as long as i can head South it doesn't matter to me how far from Woodstock. i want to get to the trailhead before dark though, it's going to be a moonless night.

Sherburne pass, about 20 miles away on route 4. Pick up a trail guide, well done. Will give you good insight to the spur trails which are worth the effort. If you have time, make the quick trip up behind the long trail lodge on the other side of the street to Deers Leap...
If it moves, you can eat it. No promises you will think it tastes good.
Thanks, Shrineclown. I think I'm going to try the Bourn Pond-Stratton Pond loop and hit Stratton Mountain for a view. I'll post a trip report.

That will be a nice hike too. I also like the white rocks section from East Wallingford trailhead south to Hapgood pond in Peru. Make a stop at Rocky pond for the night. The white rocks cliffs are pretty cool. I think that is a longer trek than you are looking for though. Camels Rump is still the best of all IMO, but in the wrong direction for you.
That will be a good hike you have planned. If you don't have the GMA trail guide, it really is very accurate. I think you can get them at EMS now too. Great planning tool for the LT. And it helps support the GMA......and their efforts.

===> Just South of Stratton Mountain is a hammock-friendly campground at Grout Pond. About a dozen of us had a group hang there last year, and had a ball! The sites start about a half mile from the parking lot, and run around the pond. They also have (at least one) Adirondack Shelter there,
Have a fun, safe trip!
