UQ stuffing baffles and what fill power down?

    Hey everyone viper here!
Alright been doing a lot I reservh in howmto actually make the UQ, but now I'm stuck on the filling of the baffles with down. Correct me if I'm wrong.
But as far as down goes the higher fill power of down the higher quality it is so lofts more and takes less of it to keep you warm right? So say 600 compared to 800 fill, down sleeping bag.
Can both get say for this example a sleeping bag of 600 or 800 fill power rated at 0deg. But would take less of the 800fill power down to keep you that warm and more of the 600fill,power feathers right?
And If I'm correct here now I have issues with down.
    1.where do I buy down?
2.what fill power down should I get?
3.how do I calculate how much down(of whatever fill power) to fill the total UQ?
4.im looking to make my UQ from a rating of like 0-20deg.
5.and does anyone know around how many oz of down I should have for a 0-20deg UQ? Like roughly 8-14? Total?
Thanks guys a tone! one I get all this figuered out I should be able to make it after buying the stuff haha.

Wilderness logics sells down. As for the amount of down. You could go to underquilts.com and use their finish chart. Gives ratios for full and 3/4 quilts and temps.

you are correct, it will take less 800fp to achieve your desired temp. than it will for 600fp, thusly making you quilt lighter

the amount you need will depend on the volume of the quilt you are making, baffle height and what temp. you want to get down too

if you google search "catsplats underquilt calculator" he has a google spreadsheet you can enter your dimensions, baffle heights, desired temp., down fill power, and it will tell you exactly how much down to use

    hope this helps

Not really all that tough with Catsplat, and the fact that there seems to be an existing shortage of 900 and even 850 FP, according to some accounts.

You'll most likely be going with 800 FP, if you buy new down, or 600 should you be repurposing pillows or comforters. If repurposing be sure to inspect the feather count and such, as results may vary.

Thats what I'd expect anyway. Good luck on the DIY quilt, and lets see some pics, when you get it done.

Re: UQ stuffing baffles and what fill power down?

That under quilt spreadsheet is great it's what I used for mine. I bought down from wilderness logics and was very happy. 850 fill power I believe. Used 5 oz and my quilt has been plenty warm
