    GT SBP Stock suspension (rope)

Ive noticed a lot of people are switching out the stock suspension and putting amsteel in. My question is.... What exactly is wrong with the stock one? Too much stretch?...Weight?....Wont hold my weight? I will be putting in an amsteel continuous loop myself, but I was just curious, as GT didnt give specs on the stock one, and I will be using it for a little bit until I order some amsteel.

I assume it is all about reducing pack weight and ease of adjusting the suspension with out knots, carabiner, etc...

Lighter, easier to adjust a lot of times, doesn't stretch you are on the right track. If you are adding the loops too your hammock I would recommend checking out the Dutchware whoopie hooks, they are a great addition.

For me, adjustability was the main reason. And I didn't like the hooks being stuffed in the bag with the bugnet, just me being overly concerned with tearing a hole in the net. Probably easier to attach a ridgeline with Amsteel also.

I fed my whoopies through the end channel, no loops necessary. Ran the loops on my SRL onto the whoopies while I was at it.

Re: GT SBP Stock suspension (rope)

I used those ropes, tied to a strap with a sheet bend, around the stock carabiner (horrible) and tied to itself with a taught line hitch for adjustability.
    It worked fine.

Whoopies are just better in every way by a small amount.
Lighter, less tangle, easier to adjust, no knot tieing....

mostly it's the ooh ooh factor. Ooh ooh I made it better! Maybe one did and maybe one did not. That is why I advise folks to hang with the original then add a couple of rap rings or carabiners close to the hammock body to tie other suspensions into. Try straps and whoopees and anything else you can find. Do it in the back yard or car camping so you have time to play. You may save yourself a lot of money and hassle playing with suspensions out on the trail. Whoopee's save grams but are fiddly. Straps are easier and faster but weigh a small bit more.
    YMMV

You could leave the loops in the hammock ends, get some webbing and climbing grade carabiners. Run the biner through the loop, then marlinspike hitch the biner to the webbing and gain adjustability.

Whoopie slings are much more user friendly, easy to adjust......and fun to make!

I changed out my GTUL because of weight. But mostly to get it to pack in a smaller sack. I can pack hammock, whoopies, and tree huggers all in the sack attached to the hammock.
