    New hammock hanger in SC

    Hey Guys,
love the information and interaction of this site. Brand new to this and look to DIY most of the equipment.
Quick question: What would y'all say is more crucial to buy as opposed to make. I'm guessing I can't take the chance on a DIY tarp, maybe later though. Seen too important to stay dry and sheltered.
Thanks for the input ahead of time.
Look forward to reading more and learning more!

Hey bud. Welcome to the forums!

I'm from right across the dam in Irmo. Feel free to hit me up any time to talk gear or come check stuff out.

As far as DIY gear is concerned, it's all dependent on your skill level. My hammock is DIY, so that's an easy one to go for. A tarp can be done as well, but requires a good bit more measuring and such - more than what I'm willing to do.

We're having a group hang at the end of September at Santee (link in my signature) that you oughta try to attend and get eyes on some other peoples setups and what you may like.

In the meantime, you're welcome to come check out what I've got for my hammock (it's a tablecloth hammock) and see if something like that could work for you.
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

    Hey Gresh
Thanks a lot, will definitely look into that! Would actually like to see what kind of set up you've got and where I can do some of the work. maybe we could catch up next time I'm across the dam. I'll send a message w a heads up when that will be. Thanks again for the offer!

Welcome to the forums from the upstate. Hammocks are easy to make, as are Fronkey-style bug nets. +1 on attending a group hang. You will be welcomed even if you come in a tent. That way you can check out lots of gear before buying/making.
