TX>Dallas>SOON- Gear check and help learning

(not sure if this is in the right spot but hoefully so)

Looking for someone that knows what to do that can sit down with a noob and make sure that their kit is good to go PRIOR to the group hang in November. I dont mind hitting the trail for a weekend to make sure that everything is in shape to go and to get some practice hanging up.

You might try a pm to Throkda, he is a great guy and on many occasions helped out new folks in your area.

Also, Caveman is planning a hike in North Texas this month. Check the trip planning forums too.

If that doesn't work, there are a bunch of other good folks in the metroplex. Failing that, if you are up to a road trip a few hours south, I'd be glad to help you out.

well i started reading the 300 0's and thats what sparked my interest in this. after finding out that there arent that many people who do thru hikes of the AT, i want to get started now doing small stuff, and hopfully in 2015 do at least 1 leg of the AT and work up from there.

Well, if you're in the DFW area, I'm right near Joe Pool lake, happy to meet at Cedar Hill State Park. This coming weekend is booked, but I can do an evening sometime next week, or Saturday evening the 17th. Lemme know when you get your gear and have free time, and we'll see what we can arrange -- I'm always happy to give people the basic rundown on setup.

(At least with gathered-end hammocks -- I've had a Hennessey, several Grand Trunks, a Blackbird, and now a Dangerbird)

I think maybe the week after next will work best right now. Have had some things come up that are keeping me locked in the house for at least week unless i HAVE to get out. I should have quite a bit of what i need to hang for the fall in by the beginning of next week as well.

also still trying to hammer out a way to get to fairfield. i like to have things done as soon as possible that way I can avoid last minute rushes to get stuff done. will update as soon as i know more.
