I am looking for a easy/mild hiking trail for a group of young Boy Scouts. Somewhere that we can hike in, camp overnight and hike out in the morning within a few hours of Baton Rouge. Looking at dates in the Fall. Any suggestions?

Lake Fausse Point. Trail C is not very long and can be hiked in a few hours with 6 or 7 campsites along the way. You can add Trails A & B if you want a longer hike. Also I think they have a campsite dedicated for the Boy Scouts.
A little farther away is the Wild Azalea Trail. I plan on going to hike a section of it this fall, but I haven't been there yet. As far as I know you can camp almost anywhere along the trail. You could pick a parking spot, decide how far you want to hike, camp and in the morning hike back to the car.

Thanks! We have camped at Fausse Point and there is in fact a Boy Scout dedicated campground. We had a great time there.
Wild Azalea is on my radar, but I don't know much about it - maybe someone who has been there will chime in.
Fausse has facilities about 100 yds from the Boy Scout campground.
Fausse is also a great place to fish and watch gators and has a series of trails for hiking and biking. And yes, there are trees around the Scout camping area.
Seems like everyone else has answered for me about Fausse Point. Wild Azalea I would have to say there are no facilities unless you went up by Alexandria to the Kincad Recreation Area, but then that is a lot farther than Fausse Point.
Some of the parents were a bit hesitant about Fausse because of the gators. We are looking at Clear Springs (Miss) right now, so Azalea is not too far. Thing is that we have been to Clear Springs too.
