Splices besides Whoopies and Soft Shackles?

What splices are there to learn besides the ones used for a Whoopie Sling or a Soft Shackles?

I finally made a Whoopie Sling, and it was very satisfying to beat the Amsteel. :7) Then I made a Soft Shackle, and I loved that. I plan to make more of each, but what other splices should I know? And what other splicing projects are there that I can learn?

Thanks for any suggestions, and thanks also for all the great stuff already posted on this site.

Dogbones, continuous loops, ucr. Not sure if you'll learn anything new by doing them but splicing is fun and they are definitely useful.

UCRs, Dogbones, continuous loops, soft shackle prusiks. Then you can splice fixed loops into the ends of all your guylines because, well, because you can.

Hey, that dogbone looks like a handy thing to have lying around!

If memory serves, the Rangers on Omaha Beach on D-Day carried what they called "toggle ropes" around their waist, which were a closed eye at one end, with a wooden toggle spliced into the other end. I should figure those out, too.

Here's instructions for making a dogbone, for the benefit of future readers: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=56527

Nacrabiners are cool tools as well... They come in handy in places where another option wouldn't work at all...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...

I see that a UCR is a Universal Constrictor Rope, as shown here:

But I still don't get how it's different from a Whoopie Sling. Can anyone enlighten me?

    Thanks again.

It works the same as a whoopie. But it is two separate lines, each one has a fixed eye on one end. One line runs through the other to create the adjustable part. An UCR uses approximately half the amount of amsteel as a whoopie (and is therefore lighter) but has a greater minimum length than a whoopie.

There is the Loopie sling too, basically a big adjustable continuous loop.

    Thanks, everyone!

Based on the suggestions you all made, I've made a long UCR of 7/16" that held me up, with a long Whoopie of the same stuff. I made a bunch of soft shackles and a couple of dogbones. Now I need to order some more rope to keep experimenting. :7)

    Much appreciated.
