Looking to camp near our nation's capital

I live in DC, and I'm curious if anyone can suggest any good locations in this area that I can go for the occasional over-nighter.

    Thanks for your help

we love Harpers Ferry, WV. The AT runs right thru town.

But here are tons of options .... use the interactive map in the link below to pick the area, then the trails that interest you. Lots of good info there. It certainly isn't every trail close by, but it's pretty good. http://www.midatlantichikes.com/

You theoretically could hike/bike from Georgetown to Pittsburgh. Just start at the C&O

I think I just read within the last few months that Prince William Forest just south of DC on 95 just started allowing hangers if they use tree hugger straps 1.5" wide or greater. Go online or call to check first.

Pohick Bay Regional Park will allow hammocks and there is lots of hiking spots from there. You are right next to Gunston Hall and the Potomac River.

Marti, thanks for the suggestion, but I found that Hennessy was clean out of the 1.5" width in 72" length. I found another strap website that should be sufficient.

wow, i guess time has taken it's toll

last time i camped up there, we parked out VW MICRO BUS & set our camp up between the river & the WASHINGTON MONUMENT

it was just a SHORT walk to the monument for the 4 0F JULY FIREWORKS DISPLAY

the CG was COZY(translated crowded) w/ neighbor's tent guy lines crossing ours

    that was JULY 4, 1960

last tyme in DC, i couldn't find that CG...

    Hmmmmmmmmm

That's true Mike. Most people aren't aware, but they actually use it as a warehouse to store print outs of all of the recorded phone conversations, texts, and emails we send overseas.

They also manufacture Drones there too. Little known fact.

    Congress actually telecommutes now.
