    Ready to jump in!

I just procured my very first sewing machine and I'm ready to hit the DIY trail.

A buddy of mine called up, said he'd buy the beer if I helped him take an old sewing machine to the dump. He didn't know what else to do with it and has to get rid of it.

It's his mothers old machine that she rarely used and he said it works perfectly. It's one of those big console things, where the machine raises and lowers into the console, with decent size extension wings on both sides.

What a win/win. Free beer and sewing machine.
I've cut it twice and it's still too short.

And probably a much better machine than you could get from Walmart...good find!

That's great. I have been on the lookout for an old/new machine also. Can't beat the deal you got.

My mom had three of those, but they are all gone because I didn't want to drive to get them and her serger. I am feeling kind of dumb. Sergers cost $1000+.

Yeah what lvleph said. Your friend was probibly going to throw away a machine worth some serious cash. You got a crazy deal.

It sounds like it has not been used in awhile. It might be worth givinig it a good oiling and taking it to a repair place for a checkup.

It's still sitting in my truck (too many beers and too heavy to unload tonight), but i did pop it open quick at his place.

It is a Nelco (if memory serves) and it has a foot switch, that is about all i can say for now.

The advice on a tune up is a great idea, but might not be practical considering the thing weighs a ton. Does anyone know a good place to find manuals?
