Are there any real benefits to draft collars or just extra weight?

I find there is huge difference...they definitely block the air from coming in...before we added them to the UQ I used to feel air on my back side...since we've put them on, it keeps me a lot warmer.
Overall, it just closes any gaps between the UQ and the hammock...having said all that, it really comes down to preference and if you are a warm sleeper or cold sleeper...I'm a cold sleeper and I don't like being cold!!
+1 to Missy Lou, it's not that they're essential or that you can't get a good seal without them but they definitely help, takes a lot of the fiddle factor out. You just put on your UQ and it's pretty much draft free, no adjustment required. I think they're well worth the weight.
Good luck,

While I do not use them, I can see that they could be a big help in colder weather

I have 2 Hammock Gear UQs. Both came without the draft collars. After HG started offering them, I sent mine back for a suspension upgrade, and the draft collars. I can sure tell the difference, and it stops the draft from hitting my backside in the middle of the night......RR
