PA>Black Moshannon SP>Labor Day weekend, Allegheny Front Trail western loop

I enjoyed hiking the eastern loop of the AFT in PA in March, and now want to see the rest of the trail. If anyone wants to join me, this is my plan:

I will arrive at the parking area by 10 AM on Saturday of Labor Day weekend (you could also come in Friday night and camp just up the trail a bit). The parking area I'm referring to is just S off of Rt 504, just E of its crossing of the big lake in Black Moshannon SP, near the junction of Julian Pike and 504, on the east side of the lake about 0.4 miles south of the dam. Packs on and hiking by 10:15 AM, heading N to the dam. From the dam, we will get onto the Shingle Mill trail. This connects to the main AFT loop, where we will head west. I plan to camp Saturday night about 8-10 miles or so from the trailhead. Sunday's hike will likely be 12-15 miles, leaving 7-9 for Monday. There are a number of campsites for us to chose from for both of our nights on trail, but I will definitely plan to have Monday be our shortest day. I will be hammock camping and wood stove cooking.

Please contact me if interested and we can sort out the details.

    Hey, QiWiz,

I won't be able to make the Labor Day hike, but I'm in PA Furnace, so I wouldn't mind getting together for some other hikes in the future. Just getting into hammock camping. Please continue to post, if you have plans for other trips.

    Slight change of plans

Now am going to arrive late Friday night, find a place to hang near parking lot overnight, and be on-trail at 9 AM Saturday.

QiWiz this sounds exactly what I was looking for but I already made plans with my oldest and he has to be back home Sunday night. Otherwise we would have headed out that way.
Please keep me in mind and give a shout the next time you want to head out I would love to tag along. Always looking for some time on the trail when I can break away from my busy schedule.
