I've used my two-layer hammock a few times and my son has used it a few more - I never noticed the pad slipping. In most two-layer hammocks, the layers are about the same dimensions...so when you sit in it and it stretches, it holds the pad pretty tightly in place.

That keeps the pad from slipping and also helps minimize air gaps caused by buckling. I can still adjust it...I just hop out and reposition the pad, then get back in.

It seems like adding another layer of material would hold the pad better than shockcord. Shockcord would allow it to buckle. But I guess that depends on what kind of pad you're using, how thick it is, and what your shockcord design looks like. I'm sure it could be made to work...making it work for less weight than a simple two-layer is the challenge.

Also, I wonder if the velcro would hold the second layer tightly enough to the bottom of the hammock. As the first layer stretches, the second layer will try to stretch as well...and I bet the fabric is stronger than the velcro. But again, it just depends on how you design it.

Pics pics pics if you make it!!

i think you're right about the sewn on velcro stressing the fabric. also the lack of adjustability.
but maybe you could sew a velcro loop onto a shock cord at each attachment point.
that could give you easy adjustment w/o mini biners.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

What kind of pad are you using? The HH is an open cell foam pad SHAPED to fit the hammock. The shockcords keep it from sliding around...they don't force it to hold its shape. And the sil just provides windblock, basically.

So if you're using a flat pad (especially CCF), I think you'll get buckles (air pockets) in it no matter how you do the shockcord.

OTOH, a tight second layer shapes the pad to the hammock and user. A thick or wide pad can still buckle though.
