Question First Hang, 4 feet from my door. 8)

    Low 26F. Low Winds

When I woke up to cold legs, face and cooled contact areas it was 3am and my cheapo thermometer read 32F.

I used BB1.1 // snug fit // WM Apache 15 degree bag and i slept in wool socks , boxers, wool LS and thin LS poly sweater.

What did I do wrong? I was pretty sad. :

You might want to play with the suspension on the SnugFit a little, but are you normally a cold sleeper?

Did you eat well before crawling in for the night ..... gotta get that inner furnace stoked.
I always wake around 5:00AM and sometimes have a cold area to deal with in really cold weather. If I eat something then I am good to go.
I read that the SnugFit is rated to only 40º .... am I right? Might need to boost that ... space blanket or something.
Don't get discouraged ... it does take a few tries to get it right and for the comfort it is worth it.

Often when I know it will drop below freezing, I'll heat up water for my Nalgene 32oz bottle and put it in with me. Keeps me warm all night and provides unfrozen water for the morning.

Also consider a vapor barrier between the hammock body and Snugfit. I think that has helped me as well. A weathershield on the outside of the Snugfit will keep the wind from robbing warmth from it and also make a diffference.

Make sure there are no air pockets under the hammock. This past weekend I was in my Speer hammock with the PeaPod. Woke up to a cold feeling on my back. Got up to check it out and the ties had slipped down putting slack in the PP. I retied both ends, climbed back in and was toasty the rest of the night.

Okay i got my first night under my belt. 8)
I didn't have a thermometer but yahoo said the low was 36.

Same gear as last time though this time i wore cap 1 long johns and some cotton ones over them. Wool socks and Wool LS. The weather was warmer this time but a lot more windy. I took a bottle of hot water with me and slept good till the early morning when i woke up b/c my legs and feet were cold. I shifted around a bit and fell asleep again to victory. lol

Maybe i'm just a really cold sleeper? I did eat some b4 going to sleep, but not that much. I think the wind was a factor too though. I used some bungee for suspending the SF, i think that helped some.

Down pants would obviously do that trick, but are heavy. Down booties/socks are light, maybe i should get a pair of those?

Great link for those without thermometers: Weather Underground. You can usually dial in to a weather station within a couple of miles of your location. Much better than the yahoo weather; I think it's based off airport conditions.
