    North Alabama Noob

Hey folks! Just checked in, and received my first hammock, waiting for my tarp to get here (impatiently)... I live in Huntsville, used to backpack a lot when I was younger, and now that I'm 40 I've decided to get back into hiking and backpacking. I remember when I was a kid at Scout camp, we would go over nite hikes and camp out on the Pinnacle at Camp Jackson in Scottsboro, AL, and there was this older staff member that would sleep in a hammock with a bugnet and a tarp over him. I remember thinking how cool that was at the time. I think it was an Army issued jungle hammock. And he always seemed more rested than those of us sleeping on the ground...

Anyway, glad to be here, and I hope to meet some folks on a future hang!

    -Domo

Welcome from over Fort Payne way. Actually planning on taking the cubs down to Jackson this month for primitive camping. Not sure if you have been since the tornado hit it but it is nothing like from when I was a Scout.

    Thanks everyone for the welcomes!

And Postal, I did drive out to Jackson about a year after the tornadoes, just peaked in on Main side. The camp was closed due to all the work that was being done. It was quite a sad sight. I'm glad they've finally gotten to a point where they're letting campers go back. When did you go there? I worked summer camp staff in 87',88',89',and 90'.

Welcome from another Rocket City hanger. I went to hike Pinnacle a few years ago and overnighted there (Indian Guides).

Great view from atop the mountain!

We have some great places to hike and camp around North Alabama.
