    first hang outside

Alright everyone getting up some guts here to go outside tommorow night for the first time. I'll explain what it is I have for gear and let me know to add or subtract. Keep in mind I'll be in my backyard so I might have a bit more than I might need. Seeing as I don't have far to travel.

    1) Speer Winter Tarp
    2) Blackbird hammock
    3) 1/2 inch wally world pad
    4) 20 degree sleeping bag used as an overquilt.
    5) Possibly my Italian wool blanket
    6) thermal underware (poly type)
    7) insulated workout pants made of nylon
    8) long sleeve top over thermals
    9) fleece top
    10) balaclava
    11) winter nitted hat
    12) gloves
    13) 2 or three pairs of socks

thats about it the temp at nite should fall to between 20 to 25. So here we go guys gettin the fortitude up to give a go. let me know what to change or add specific about clothing.

A hot water bottle, so you can take off some of those clothes? A warm bottle near your feet anyway.

This is just a suggestion from what I've read here. I've not spent any time outside in the cold in a hammock... yet... I do know that getting into and out of clothes while already in my sleeping bag tends to warm me and it up nicely. But then, I'm kinda small and I have a largish down bag.

You want to think about what you want to carry on the trail as well. If you don't want to carry all that you listed here, I personally wouldn't do the test. I think simulating the night in things you would only carry would be a more beneficial test, seeing that you would know if you need to add more. The great thing about being in your back yard is that if you get cold, there's no shame in running inside and knowing that you need more gear

Just my $.02. If you are willing to carry all that on the trail, then go for it! Have fun regardless!

yes I agree with you 100%. But I will be getting an underquilt and the only thing extra here is the wool blanket. Plus I just wanna sleep in the blackbird ha ha.
