    Hanging from a 4x6

Asking for a little help. I have a car port that is enclosed on three sides. I have a large maple tree for one end of the hammock and I want to attach the other end to a corner support of the car port. The corner posts are 4inches by 6 inches. I am not sure how far in the ground they are, but things are very solid. I purchased a lag eye bolt 7/16" by 5 ¼" rated for 325lbs. I am about 175 lbs. I think I am safe to screw the lag eye bolt into the center of the 4x6, but wanted to check with all you experts here. Does anyone see a problem with this?
    Thanks for your help

I don't see an issue - sounds pretty safe to me.

I use a lot smaller eye bolt than you have and on my 4 x 4s of the porch out to a 6 x 6 couple of feet in the ground with no problems,,if my 4 x 4s hold,,your good to go on a 4 x 6. Enjoy your hangs. My 4 x 4's on the porch are couple of feet in the ground, with 2 x 6's framed at the bottom for the treated porch and then into the roof of the front of the house..solid and don't move a bit.

    Thank you

I thought it would work, now I got confirmation. I had made a Turtle Dog stand last year, and have used a supported vertical pole/tree, now I have something more permanent. Thanks
