    New Swinger from Virginia

My name is Scott and I live in the Shenandoah Valley in VA. I love to camp but at 50 and sustaining back injuries in Iraq, my Nemo 1P just doesn't cut it as the ground is to hard on me. I started my hammock quest while searching on ebay for a Vietnam era jungle hammock but, for a good quality hammock it was just to much money so I started researching the internet for various hammocks in which three came up all the time. I decided to go with the Hennessey Explorer Deluxe ASYM. Along with that, these are the accessories I got with it. Snake Skins, 2"x96" webbing, Typhoon rain fly 70D polyester, Radiant double bubble pad XL and the Super Shelter 4-season insulation system so hopefully I am ready to go. There is a lot of good information here and I hope to meet some of you for a camping trip. I also like to fly fish for Native Brook Trout. I have 23 years in the military, six years as a civilian firefighter and now retired because of my PTSD and back issues so I have plenty of time on my hands. I'm looking forward to hopefully contributing to the forum and welcome any feedback, constructive criticism or otherwise. I am originally from Massachusetts so I have a tough skin so, don't worry about insulting me. What do you think of my setup? I found James to be very easy to deal with and liked what I saw about there product and felt it was very versatile and that's what lead me to their brand of hammock.

Hiya Scott! Welcome, and thank you for your service! Sounds like a great setup you've got! You'd get along great with my father. 10 years in the National guard, 20+ as a volunteer firefighter. I can't seem to get him out of the RV and into a hammock, though...

Hey Scott, welcome from a No. VA. You are at the right place for lots of good information. I hammock off my motorcycle and spend quite a number of days up your direction each year. Beautiful roads for riding.

    Welcome ScottM

I'm going to make a grand assumption that you're a Hanger, rather than a Swinger. Don't know about Mass, but around here a "Swinger" used to be something else...

I'm here for the Key Party!!! Woohoo....
Wait... its not that kind of party????

    Welcome to the forum!

I found out that one thing that people from Virginia are
sensitive about, is people saying they are from West Virginia.
I made this mistake to my aunt once. She is from Leesburg.
That area is gorgeous. I love the civil war era stone fences
that line most of the streets around there.

Beautiful area! I hope that you enjoy the forum.

Welcome Scott from Scott in Powhatan, VA. Thanks for your service, I am a former Marine and I am a Career Firefighter for Chesterfield County Fire & EMS.
I just found the hammock scene and I'm trying to get it all straight myself. This is a great site with tons of good info, see you around.

I am originally from Massachusetts/Rhode Island area which is loaded with beautiful stone walls there. My wife is from Lineville, AL. and she loves to visit N.E. but won't move there. I have been here since 11/01 and picked up fly fishing so it only seems natural to hammock camp because for one my back won't take laying on the ground anymore and most places are hard to find a flat enough spot to pitch a tent so now, I have a brand new, unused Nemo 1P tent and foot print. My hammock should be here by tomorrow and maybe I will hit the woods on Saturday for the night. Thank you all for the welcome.
