    Diy pluq

So I picked up a PL last week with the intention of making a PLUQ, yesterday I ran out and got some shock cord (cleaned out my local REI of its 1/8 ), a few cord locks, and 2 s-biners.

First, I just cut a couple slits in the fabric and used heat to seal the edges so it won't fray. Then I took a couple long pieces of my shock cord and ran them through the holes and inside the factory hem. nice and easy.

Next, for my ends, I made a slit on each corner and one in the middle, again, heat treating them to seal. For each end, I took 2 smaller pieces of shock-cord, tied a loop at one end, slid that loop over the long edge piece, and then slid them through the factory hem and they came out the hole at the center. This is where I draw both cords to cinch up the ends.

Since it is so wide, I may use another idea that I saw someone else using where they put a couple grommets on the sides and had the excess folded in to offer a little extra layer of insulation.

I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

Very nice looking PLUQ. Easy peasy and still can be used as originally intended.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Looks great. I didn't know one could get black poncho liners. I would love that. Most of my setup is grey and black. Black would keep the monochrome theme going.

Can you adjust the ends while in the hammock? I like the idea of the cinching coming out the middle but I would not want to get in and out to adjust the closure.

Wow, that looks almost wide enough to where you can
wrap it around you, and it can almost be an under and top quilt.

If you don't mind me asking... did you find a good deal on the PL?

    Looks good.

    I like wide.

When a UQ wraps itself around you, its like a hug from your mama.

Thanks guys! I found the black one at a local surplus store for 24.99, which was a little more than I wanted to pay, but it was cheaper than I found it online. Before I added the shock cord and hardware, it weighed just under 21oz (594g to be exact), and now it weighs 24.76oz (702g). I could probably get it below 24 if I trimmed some excess shock cord.

You can adjust the head end, just gotta reach up behind you and feel around for the cord lock. The foot end would be difficult to adjust without getting out of the hammock. The cord locks are up at the ends of the hammock.

Edit: those weights are in the stuff sack.

Have you taken a test drive in it yet?

I tried a little bit today, while I was trying out some UCR's. Testing got cut short though, so I will have to do some more extensive testing and actually see about the warmth and comfort later. I live in SoCal, too, so I really won't be able to temp-test it for a little while
