    Cheap tarp for extreme weather?

Hi I am planing on using my hammock for the first time on a 9 day deer hunting trip in the high desert of CA at the end of September. What size poly tarp would give me the most pertection in inclement weather? I don't expect it to be any colder than 25*. We might get a small amount of snow or rain. It could be very windy we have had 40-50 mph winds in past hunting seasons. Weight is not an issue because we will be car camping.

My hammock is an Eno doublenest. I have an ahe new river on order and I will use a MSS for a top quilt.

    Thanks, Patrick

Well.. Cheap and extreme weather really don't compute with me..
If you know you are going to be subjected to those winds, with possible rain with it.... Find something here for sale that is proven under such conditions..
They are very reasonably priced, considering the safety of dryness, comfort level.. jmo.... Have fun!!
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

10/11 that's what I take in rough weather and it allows me to close the ends off like a tent.

Have a look at the DDHammocks XL tarp. You can set up a nice base camp with that.

My thought was what you pay for in a "hammock tarp" is lightweight materials and eze of setup. I would think with the correct rigging you could be just as comfortable in a wal-mart poly tarp. Is that not so? I don't have much extra money too spend (just baught an engagement ring). I will have a tent with me incase I can't make the hammock thing work. I could sleep in my dads travel trailer if the weather was really bad.

I would just be worried about the tie outs.. Of course anything can be repaired
and improvised.. I made due with a 8x 10 cheapie for a year, wasn't tested extreme though.. It will work.. Just remember the bigger it is, the more it wants to become a kite...

I've been looking at a cheap tarp that is rope lined. If a grommet pulls out your tie out remains tied to the tarp not a total disaster. I bought a second hammock so as to take my nephews son on a short campout. I found an 8x6 rope lined tarp at Northern Tool for $6.
    There's no excuse for laziness...

but, if you find one, let me know.

As weight is not an issue, a Hennessy Hex or a Kelty Noah 12x12 would work well.

A poly tarp will most likely come apart in those type of winds so not sure about cheap.

I would go for a heavy duty PU coated nylon ripstop tarp, 10x12, 12x14 etc or even a canvas tarp since you dont care about the weight.
