    Sleep Help???

I cant sleep for more than a half hour in the hammock.
I fall asleep in 5 min every night, makes my wife some sort of mad.
I can fall asleep on the ground, in a car, in a chair, you name it I can sleep there except the hammock. I am not cold, no pressure points, I am very comfortable. Tried last nite. Started at 9:30 woke at 10:15, layed there, fell asleep and was awake at 11:30. Is this normal, is there a hammock sleep learning curve? Any suggestions.

That seems to happen to me the first night out when hiking. I will wake up every couple of hours or so. But the second night...whooo buddy do I sleep good!

My only thought has been that maybe when I move around that first night my body just isn't used to being in the hammock rather than my bed. Just my philosophy

Have you tried multiple nights in a row yet?

Zquill, Tylenol PM, etc. all help the first night or two trying to sleep in a different way. Your body needs time to get used to it. A little something to help your brain shut down never hurts. I usually take something for the first night if my brain is rambleing on.

    Re: Sleep Help???

I have the same problem anytime I'm camping, regardless of hammock or the confounded ground.

By night #2, I have to be woken up the next morning.

It was all about finding "my hang" for getting a good night's sleep in my hammock. I was in a HH Explorer, then switched to a WBBB 1.7 DL and found my sweet spot a lot quicker.

I found that in bed, I am not a back sleeper, at all. A hammock almost forces you to be a back sleeper, until you do the experiments to find that you can be a side or almost stomach sleeper in a hammock. (Stomach? Yup...seen it here).

Now, I have found a hybrid way to back and side sleep in my hammock, and it suits me well...I was at Boy Scout camp for a whole week, a couple weeks ago, and I found my sweet spot the first night, and stayed that way all night. One night, I remember falling asleep at 12:20 AM, and waking up in the exact same position at 5:45...and boy, I was refreshed! On my back-ish, too...

Experiment, you will find your hang, and once you do, you may end up either hanging outside all the time, putting eye bolts in the bedroom or hanging from the rafters in the basement.

I sleep in the backyard a couple of nights a week and usually get awakened by my alarm in the morning. I'm not sure if you have tried ear plugs, but that seems to help me.

Never had a problem sleeping. Once I'm in the hammock I'm out until the clock goes off. Of course I'm up as soon as the dog decides he wants to climb in too. One of the downsides to having a hammock indoors, the dog loves it as much as I do. Camping hasn't been an issue, all the hiking before hand tires me out real good.

Being a fulltimer don't really have a problem though moving from the house hammock to the hiker and vice versa does require a bit of mental adjustment.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
