    South Carolina backpacking

    Hey there -

I am looking for book recommendations on backpacking in South Carolina. Especially upstate SC. Something you've used & found helpful.

Heck.. I'll even take your recommendations on trails/loops if you want to give them.

    Thanks!

    Foothills Trail http://www.foothillstrail.org/

    From the site:

Whether you are looking for a long-distance backpacking trip or an exciting day-hike, the Foothills Trail offers an extraordinary opportunity to explore the Southern Appalachians. About 77 miles in length, the Foothills Trail is located along the Blue Ridge Escarpment in Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. The trail is within easy driving distance of Greenville, Asheville, Charlotte, and Atlanta.
The landscape is diverse, ranging from high rocky outcrops with views to the distant horizon, to quiet forests in deep valleys carved by bold mountain streams. Elevations along the trail range from 1,120 feet at Table Rock State Park to 3,560 feet atop Sassafras Mountain.

    and

are both local to me and I've done a few loop trails all through these areas. Great views and some challenging trails. I can get more specific on trails if you need or are going to be in this area.

I almost forgot about Ellicott's Wilderness SC.
I really want to take my grand kids there. I looked in the trip reports area and found a couple reports there about the area:

Thank you all for the suggestions.
Looks like a trip to REI to check out the books is in my future.

I couldn't agree more about the Foothills Trail.

Labor Day Week, I plan to backpack the 33 mile section from Bad Creek to Hwy 178. I've done both ends of this section but not the 20 miles in the middle.
It's all I have left to complete it.

Here is "The Trail guide to the Foothills Trail" and Foothills Trail Map

I'm sure you can find them at any SC outdoor store.

If you want something different, try the Congaree Swamp near Columbia in the winter.

I most certainly recommend the Foothills Trail. If you need any help with numbers, shuttling, or even a hiking companion, let me know.

Also, the Bartram trail goes through the western edge of SC.
