    (video) Birkhead Wilderness Area (NC)

I went to Birkhead Wilderness Area earlier this week, mainly to see if the storm of a couple months ago that damaged the Uwharrie Trail so badly had impacted this area also. I'm happy to say it was almost untouched. For those unfamiliar with Birkhead, it's in the Uwharrie Mtns of central NC. I thought I'd shoot this video while I was there to show a beautiful hardwood forest. It's a great place to hike and camp (notice all the perfectly spaced trees). Hope you enjoy it.

Firebird - great edit on the movie, I enjoyed seeing some local scenery along with its history.
That overcooked part had me laughing.
Trail didn't look too bad from storm damage at least what you showed us.
Too bad about the chimney, always like seeing the old homestead structures.

Hey Tall Paul, thanks for the kind words. I appreciate that coming from one of the video experts. I was waiting for your part 2 GSMNP Sterling trip before I commented on it and somehow overlooked it until yesterday. Good job! I haven't been to Mt Sterling in many years. Brought back a lot of memories. Liked the underwater scenes. I want to see one with full backpack. No, the storm did almost no damage to Birkhead and none to the trails I was on. That old chimney, best I can determine, was built @ mid 1800. Shame to see it go after surviving all those years. When I hike in the mountains and go up some holler or cove and see an old homeplace or stone wall, I often sit and imagine some of the stories they could tell. That's what always intrigued me about exploring and camping in the mountains. I'm heading to Wilson Creek soon, I'll PM you if your interested. Thanks for watching

Hated to see that chimney finally meet it's fate with time. Thanks for putting this together. Haven't been back in there in over 11 years now. Nicely done!

Thoroughly enjoyable...thanks for sharing. I laughed at the overcooked part. Somebody or something was hungry. They didn't waste a scrap.

Thanks for watching Hawk-eye. It's a shame to see old historical places like that go to ruin. Feel like I'm getting there myself sometimes. Really enjoy your Linville Gorge videos. I've got some pictures I took in there in the early 70s. Amazing place, the Indians wouldn't go there because it was sacred ground.

70"s huh? Sounds like we probably crossed trails a time or two! Would love to see you photos. I've been going there since the late 60's ... man I'm getting older than dirt

I've never tried "Turtle on the Half Shell". We might be missing something. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

Hi ssdivot, glad you enjoyed it. Just finished your video a minute ago. What a beautiful place!! High altitude lakes are hard to beat. I'd probably still be there. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing the video. It reminded me of some of the things I saw when I visited the Ouachita National Forest in AR.
