    HH Underpad and DL?

    Hi there,

I'm a newbie and going insane trying to pin point what I want to buy exactly. So in doing so, I need to get some questions answered, if you don't mind.

I was wondering if the HH Underpad would fit into a simple DL hammock. Could I get away with this do you think? Has anyone tried?

I was thinking they pack pretty small for what it is and is light too, so if I could put it in the DL I could save myself some money until I can afford an UQ. this could determine a lot of things... I think.

    Thanks for reading!

sort of maybe. If it fit you could try hanging a Hennessy underpad and cover under a different hammock. The problem would be if the shape was right for that hammock.

The reason most folks talk about a double layer hammock for use with a pad is that a Closed Cell Foam pad does not compress much so a thin one can be slid in between the two layers and still provide good insulation. Hennessy uses an open cell foam pad to provide the loft similar to a down or fiber fill hammock and an over cover to block the wind that would blow through. That kind of pad would collapse flat in between layers of a DL hammock.

The good news is that a CCF pad is relatively low in cost and have many uses. ;-)
    YMMV

Ah. Thanks for that nothermark. That makes total sense. So without the overcover the wind would blow through, and the benefit would be negated then again, eh?

Well, yes. It is a good thing those CCF pad are cheap. I'm going to have to think some more....

    Thanks again!

For me in a WBBB DL 1.1 I am good with a pad up to around 60 degrees give or take 5d.When it hit the upper 50s and I put the 40 d under quilt on .Nothing wrong with a pad with a DL if if works for you.

That would mean it would take me to now, in my neck of the woods, if I'm the same kind of sleeper as you (I'm a very cold sleeper), but not beyond into fall at all. Maybe my investment for an underquilt will have to come sooner rather than later?

    Good to know.
