REI site specs the Omega rings at 34 grams. Is that correct? SMC spec wt is 11 gm. If carrying weight is an issue the weight difference of 4 rings starts adding up.

Gave the ring concept a try using slingrings (12 gm at $1.15) and Garda hitch or webbing through the rings. It makes adjustments a bit quicker, but revert back to no additional hardware. Ended up tying a "security" knot just in case the line or webbing slipped. Figure it's not much more effort just to tie a single knot. Slipped buntline is simple to tie, easy to untie and so far real secure.

One of the "problems" I have developed that gets feed by this site is the continuous need to try out all these concepts. Always reaching for the "Holy Grail" of whatever.

opie, is that a DIY receiver suspension post?

All of our camping is vehicle dependent. We do alot of trail and fireroads traveling during the summer. We may occasionally head off for a couple hour hike, but we always head back to camp, where the vehicle is. Usually waaaaaaay out there. Away from "improved" camp sites, etc. So weight is way down there at the bottom of the list of things to worry about. It lets me worry about the "cool factor" of all my gear.

Heres a shot I took on the very tip of the Keewenaw in the UP of MI last year...

Doesnt get much more remote than that.

Yes, the post is something I whipped up a couple weekends ago for the times when spacing between two trees isnt sufficient. I also wanted to be able to hang the hammocks side by side so my son and I can lie head to foot. He just turned 6 and still likes to be near us.

Man I love REI! Ordered Sun and my rings arrived today...with my LiteMax stove.

Opie, what size line is that in your first pics? I ordered some Bluewater 5mm line but it's looking too thick to me.

Honestly...I dont have a clue. If I had to guess, Id say its about 5mm or 6mm. Rating on it was 1230 IIRC.

Why do you need rings? To adjust tension, just move your truck!

That's exactly what I ordered. I guess I'll give it a shot after all. Now to order my webbing. Too bad that won't be here for me to give this a whirl over the weekend.
