Now that I think about it my last escape from the bear family happened before we had time to eat anything. They ran us out within 2 hours of setting up camp. So what difference does it make where you eat. Where does a bear look for food? Anywhere he wants too.

I'm not a hundred percent sure but I think they are talking about breakfast and coffee from the hammock before they start the mornings hike. I think their is a similar thread where this question was asked and the response was dinner was eaten at the last rest stop before getting to camp and only breakfast was prepared in camp.

One would think that coffee and hammocks would not go together, seems counterintuitive to drink coffee and lounge in a hammock...well I guess you may need it in the morning to get out of the hammock... I really don't know though, I'm not a coffee drinker.

This weekend I put in some hooks on the back porch and hung my ENO double nest with some of those awesome Dutch Whoopie slings that I got... The idea being that I could watch the sunset, or, drink my morning coffee watching the sunrise... Now what I was not expecting was to find my wife drinking coffee in my hammock on Sunday morning... I suppose she has been secretly watching Shug's videos too.

I lean over the side of my hammock for the most part. Maybe a few pop tart crumbs in the hammock put I shake them out when packing.
My hammock smells more like farts than food))))))
A risk I am willing to take.

I guess I never gave eating breakfast in my hammock a second thought, till now. I usually only eat grits or a power bar for breakfast. Not a lot of odor there but definitely some. I use the hang over the side, scoop out a bite, take a sip of coffee and roll back in, repeat. So I am not really eating in my hammock. Should probably be more careful...
