Thanks Mike, 3 months ago I would have never thought I could make this stuff. Gonna get into low 30s down here this weekend, can't wait to test it out.
Forecasted lows here tonight is 33. Gonna give it try!
hey bucs what would you estimate your cost was in materials for that?
NY,
I would say around $80 for both the TQ and UQ. Includes shipping. Well over half the cost is in the insulation. Around $48 plus shipping. Got the digital Camo here on HF for $12 for 4yds and picked up the olive green ripstop at Walmart for $1/yd. I did cut things down a bit because I'm a small guy. Only 5'4".
Really looks nice. Do you have pix of the UQ too? I'm new to all of this and am learning a lot from HF but still have many questions.....with your TQ, what do you use the sewn loops for? Are both your TQ and UQ your design or did you find drawings / plans for them? Thanks man.
Seaelf,
I have a post here that has info and pics on my UQ. Basically made from same material as my TQ.
You can find it here:

The design and idea came from Scooterbrown's post on his UQ. On the 3rd page of post, there are very good pics of the design and how to layer the material using the inside out method. As far as size, I kinda improvised and cut it down a bit because I'm a small guy. I also looked at the dimensions from manufactures like EE and Wilderness logics to get an idea of the dimensions they were using.

My TQ design was based on BadKarmas post of his TQ. Again I cut dimensions down a bit and used other sites for reference on the size. I struggled with what to do with the footbox. But decided to do the cinched footbox for venting and then Velcro up 18" just because I thought it would be easier. The loops I added so if I wanted to go to ground, I would have a way to add straps that would tie up quilt to sleeping pad. EE does this. Although in hindsight, I put too many.

All in all I'm very happy, although in testing at home now that the weather is cooler, I wish I had added snap and cinching at the top, so I could cinch up top around my shoulders.
Hope this helps, Bucs
Bucs...thanks for the quick reply. Will check the links you provided. OK on the loops.....good idea! All the best--- seaelf
Was able to test a bit last night and lows got to 34 here. Didn't get a chance to spend all night with setup, instead got up around 4ish and went out slept a couple hours. Overall stayed pretty warm, had a few drafts around shoulder area I had hard time closing that up. Other than that I'm very happy. I may go ahead and add the drawstring so I can cinch up around my shoulders.
