    Question Ridgerunner Double Layer

Well I have my Warbonnet Ridgerunner Double Layer. How effective would a sleeping pad be inside the double layer? Any recommendations for sleeping pads? I try to go ultra light, but I'm wanting a really nice sleeping pad. Only bad thing I've heard is condensation appears on the pad and gets the hammock wet. Any advice?

    Hi Jaker,

I use a thermarest z-lite in mine. It has an egg carton style perforated surface, basically a bunch of holes molded into it. The condensation, if it appears, falls into the holes and you just carefully slide the pad out in the morning, and give it a shake out. Everything stays dry this way.

    Cheers

Thanks for the advice Callahan! I'll see if I can find one and give it a try. Thanks again!

This is about as far from ultralite as you can get: wiggys ground pad

I have one of the short or medium length (torso length, I forget which) that I use with my WBRR for car camping. So far condensation hasn't been an issue and it provides plenty of warmth. +1 on using the z-rest or z-lite pad too. The depressions catch any condensation so it's not an issue. I have a small section I'll use in milder weather or under my feet when it's actually cold (for me anything below 40F).

As far as lightweight goes I think you can use most any pad you'd use on the ground in cold weather (downmat, BA IAC, etc). A foam filled type of self inflating pad works fine too but they're a little more bulky and heavy.

    Ridgerunner Double Layer

I use a gossamer gear pad it works great and is available wider sizes for hammocks.

I use 2 pieces of the reflectix type insulation pad from Lowes 24" x 6' sewn together..works great and it's cheap...

I used my Big Agnes Insulated pad the other night when it got down into the low 60's. I was very warm in just my boxers. I used just the pad and for a top quilt I used my BA bag, worked great. My plan is to buy the Lynx UQ soon for colder camping. Good luck.

I've slept with the NeoAirXlite and a light weight self inflatable Thermarest with no condensation issues. I think condensation issues vary person to person.

Very good with Exped UL 7

I recently tried it with the Expep UL 7 large. It is a very good fit legth-wise and in width. It allows the bending knees to extend over the edge of the hammock at it's narrowest without being compressed by the hammock fabric. In other words, it allows sleeping in a fetal position. I have tried the pad only in a no-net RR so far.

The raised center of gravity is noticeable. I like to grab the sides of the hammock when turning over, to keep my weight more centered while changing positions inside the hammock.

I like the RR with a pad a lot, but I like it with the Lynx even better IMHO. The condensation that you mentioned is the reason I preferred it with the quilt.
