Home made UQ for the nx-250. Thoughts?

    Between an
    Nx-250
    Marmot Lamina 0 bag
    Cookware
    Kelty Coyote 80l bag
    other accessories and items....
I am hard pressed to spend 200-350 for a good UQ for my hammock.

I've read what people have had to say about the z-liner.
I've read what people have had to say about a good UQ.

From reading reviews on the bag I bought I think it will keep me pretty toasty. So to try and save a few bucks I was thinking of these options.

1- Take one or 2 down blankets I have at home , open them up , sew them into packs like the z-liner.

2- Open up the down blankets I have at home , get some ripstop nylon and get them sewn into an underquilt. Doing this , will it be waterproof? ( I plan to use my nx-250 a lot in the winter).

3- Cut a down comforter in half , than cover it in ripstop nylon and make that the underquilt. ( kind of like option 2 just less work.)

    Idea's?

By the way got an 80l coyote and the Marmot 0 lamina for $243 at sunnysports.
Use trailspace.com to look for gear and than use their where to buy feature and you can save a ton.

I'm afraid I'm not much of a DIY person. But if you can find a pattern for a yeti clone, you will be in good shape. I clip the shock cords to my suspension with some mini beaners and then tuck in the cords on to the pole holders.
It's wild, the yeti fits better on the Clark then it does on the blackbird. And you can still use your gear pockets.

So I don't know if thats what you want to hear, but that's my two cents.

I just ordered my NX-250 and planning on some kind of UQ as well. Without having seen the hammock yet my initial thoughts are to make individual down "pillows" that go into the storage areas. I have to see how these are constructed first to understand how feasible that is to prevent cold spots.

Interested in seeing what you come up with.

The Clark Forum is not so deep that you can't find tons of options and suggestions on exactly this topic. You'll also find reference within one or more threads to a set of down-filled pillows / pads commissioned from an expert quilt maker.

Search is good. Meandering and browsing sometimes even better.
