    y-shaped tent stakes

Has anyone had both the non-branded y-stakes sold on http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/p...etal-hardware/

and been able to compare them to MSR Goundhog Tent Stakes? For less than half the price, if they're the same thing, I'd love to save a couple bucks getting stakes for my hammocks.

I can't say how those compare to the MSR GTS but if you are just looking to go cheap it's hard to beat the price of Coghlan's at WallyWorld.

I haven't used the MSR stakes, but I do have a bunch of the stakes from DIYGearSupply (backwoodsdaydreamer) and I like them.
They seem plenty strong (pounded a few with a rock) and they come with the cord loop and in bright colors, so easy to yank out, and hard to forget. I'd buy more. Great service, too.
Off-topic: The Y-shape pegs are definitely stronger than the V-style which are a bit lighter. I bent a couple of V-Hilleberg stakes quite easily.

I own both the groundhog minis and the other from DIY gear supply, the ground hog mini seem to be alot stronger, but the others work very well for me also. I use the mini ones 4 my stake out on the BB and the others for tarp. both are great imo.I wouldnt go with the mini for a tarp though(just wanted to save size and weight and money) with all that said save your self some cash......

I use off brand 'groundhogs' and they hold great in a variety of soils. they held this weekend at the Outdoor Expo in Lexington, KY. I was outside and saw moderate wind with a few strong gusts all weekend.

I did bend one pretty good when i used my foot to drive it in hard soil, and felt like it bent too easy, compared to the MSR stakes, but i shouldn't have used my foot in the first place! they held up fine pounding them in with a rock the rest of the time.

I really like the 6-pack I got from Sierra Designs. They're blue and cost about $10

So, here's what needs to happen...

Buy some from all the vendors/manufacturer's mentioned throughout this thread. Perform a comparative test with them, draft up a quick look report and post it here.

Heh, don't we all wish. Unfortunately, my student loans come first in my budget so I'm looking to pick up some stakes for the lowest price while still getting a decent quality product. Maybe some day I'll have cash to burn.

Coghlan's it is! Welcome to the bottom. Seriously though, the best tarp attachment points are often trees.
