    Hammock Withdrawals

Saturday, I moved into my dorm at Jacksonville State University, and the first thing I noticed was crappy beds. Classes don't start until Wednesday, and there has been nothing to do so far, so I have done nothing but lay around and play Call of Duty and watch tv. Even though I have layed around the whole time, I have not felt rested since the first day. The mattresses are hard and the floor vibrates through the beds due to the ancient A/C units. I have not slept well yet and am really missing having my hammock set up in my room at home. The good thing is, I am going home on the weekends so will have my hammock two nights a week. The bad thing is, I am stuck in this dorm for the rest of the school year. I guess this is really just a post for me to whine and moan about how bad I have it. Have any of you had to go through this kind of torture?

Have you tried to see if there is any way you can hang your hammock in your room? There might be a way to hang it. Also, if nothing else, go outside and find some trees to hang from. I hope your year goes well.

There's not a way to hang it in the room unfortunately. The room is only 13x18 ft and there are two of us living in there. We can't take any furniture out, so I couldn't rearrange it to fit a hammock stand I'll probably get used to the beds, but it will never be the same as hanging in my hammock! There is an outdoor club here and they do a lot of hammocking stuff from what I've heard, so I will look into that also!

Maybe you'll get lucky and get expelled.

    Good luck with your classes.

Haha I'm hoping not to get expelled this early, but if it gets me back to my hammock, it may be better

Cody Lundin allegedly lived in a wikiup while he was in college. Just find a bit of "secluded" green space near enough to campus and your problems will be solved.

Type "hammock in the dorm" in Google Images and you'll get quite a few ideas. (VERY tiny spaces!) Good luck!

Convert your bed into a loft (I did it with 2x4 material), then hang your hammock underneath diagonally. Just remember cross-bracing (full X in the back, A frame in front for access.

I'll definitely keep in mind raising the bed up to hang the hammock underneath if it doesn't get better soon. Last night the bed reminded me of tent camping with no pad. Tonight is freshman convocation, so I'm hoping to find some people with similar interests that might have an apartment or something that I could stay at and put a stand in. Fingers crossed!
