Mmmmm BACON.
Mmmmm BACON.
Although Booth's Rock is one of my favourite lookouts in the park, I'm inclined to get at least 1 portage from the put in.
I'm inclined to agree with keg.
Don't let life get in the way of living.
I like metric, I use metric, for those of you who don't ... you should, for those of you who won't ... here.
0*C - 32*F, 10*C - 50*F, 20*C - 68*F, 30*C - 86*F
100g - 3.52oz, 500g - 17.63oz, 1kg - 2.2lbs, 16oz - 1lbs
10cm - 3.9", 1m - 3.28ft, 1km - 0.62mi
Truely. I'd like to get one portage under our belts, just to get away from those infernal internal combustion engions.
Pen's a pretty good option with Booth's Rock so close; it'd be awesome to have Sunday breakfast on the top of those cliffs. How cool would that be? But Pen's a fairly nondescript lake and Glydegale's a bit far for the "quick paddle" I had in mind.
Butt Lake (Ralph Bice) is nice but it's a considerable way further for our Ottawa boys to drive, and besides, we went through there last year. Joe and Ragged Lakes have the virtue of easy road access off of Hwy 60 and a fairly short paddle to our site, but Joe's heavily travelled. Ragged's a very nice lake with some serious terrain.
All these options are one short portages away fom the cars.

I spent many summers as a kid on Smoke Lake,, which, I assume is where we'd be leaving the cars to go into Ragged. My friend (whom I haven't seen in over 25 years) had a family cottage there. I remember going for a paddle on Ragged and seeing where the log chute used to be. I remember the burned out remains of an old lodge on Smoke - don't remember what it was called. As kids we imagined Tom Thomson's ghost hanging out there as we paddled by. I remember big family cookouts on Molly's Island. I remember learning to paddle for the first time alone in a hand-made cedar strip canoe. For me, there are a lot of great memories in that area.
A lotta ins... lotta outs... lotta what-have-you's
That's sounds really nice ggreaves. Over the long years, I've always only passed through the Park and admired the cottages with a longing eye. Many a lunch we've had on Molly and many more times we've dashed into her lee to take refuge from the strong north winds that blow down Smoke.
